You're Invited - Presentation Assemblies and Thank You Morning Tea

This Wednesday, 9th December, Athelstane will be hosting our annual Presentation Assemblies to recognise student achievement in 2015. Parents are invited to attend this special event. The K-2 assembly will start at 9:30am, and the 3-6 Assembly will take place at 11:30am. A thank you morning tea for parents and volunteers that have helped throughout the year will also be held in the Library at 10:45am. We look forward to seeing you there.... Read more

Applications for student travel 2016

From 2 November 2015, a new online SSTS application process is being introduced for schools within the Opal network, coinciding with the introduction of the School Opal card. Schools outside the Opal network should continue to process the existing blue SSTS application forms and send them to the appropriate transport operators. Most parents, guardians and students won't need to apply for a school travel pass for 2016 if they have already been given a school student travel pass for the current year. Meeting Our New Kinders!

Over the past four weeks, we have welcomed our new students starting Kindergarten next year into our Kindergarten classrooms. They have had a fantastic time meeting their Kindergarten teachers and getting a taste of what life for a "big school" student is like. The students even took part in a fabulous graduation ceremony today to mark the end of their orientation program. We are looking forward to seeing them all again next year!... Read more

Intensive Swimming - THIS WEEK

The Intensive Swimming Program for students in Years 2-6 begins today, Monday 2nd November. Students will remain at school today for a water safety session in the library. From tomorrow, students will attend Canterbury Swimming Pool for daily swimming lessons. Students are required to wear their swimming clothes under their school uniform and bring a bag with their underwear, sunscreen and a towel. Kindergarten Orientation

Our Kindergarten Orientation Program for children starting school next year begins this Wednesday, the 28th of October. We invite all students starting Kindergarten at Athelstane in 2016, and their parents, to spend the morning in our Kindergarten classrooms to give students an understanding of what school will be like next year. 2016 school funding allocations

All NSW public schools are currently being advised of their 2016 Resource Allocation Model (RAM) funding. RAM distributes funding based on individual needs of students and schools, and gives schools greater flexibility to make financial decisions. The way schools use their RAM funding will vary based on local needs. Some support will be for the entire school, and some will be for particular groups of students or individual students. What A Term!

Well, what a term we have had at Athelstane! Our students have had the opportunity to take part in a variety of exciting educational opportunities and experiences this term such as the K-6 Athletics Carnival and the Zone competitions, Multicultural Day, Book Week including the Book Character Parade and Book Fair and visiting shows from some amazing authors. Teddy Bears Picnic

Pre-school students starting Kindergarten in 2016 and their parents are invited to Athelstane's Annual Teddy Bears Picnic. It will be an afternoon of fun, games and crafts and gives children the opportunity to experience a day at 'big school' before they start next year. Chinese Lion Dance

Multicultural Day

Today Athelstane held a special Multicultural Day celebration. The day was full of excitement, colour and lots of fabulous performances. Students of Athelstane were lucky enough to see performances by a Bollywood dancer, a Chinese Lion dance and harpist, experience some Brazillian Capoeira and to be entertained by an Aboriginal performer. Many students from Athelstane also performed items from a variety of different cultures including Indian Bollywood Dancing, Arabic Drumming, the Greek Zorba, a Macedonian Dance Group and the Senior Dance... Today students took part in Tree Day. This involved weeding and clearing all garden beds within the school, and planting a variety of beautiful new trees and plants. Commemorative Coin

ANZAC Commemorative Coin

As a special tribute to honour the 100th Anniversary of the ANZACs landing at Gallipoli, the SRC will be selling a special limited edition coin to honour the service and sacrifice of all Australians who were involved in the First World War. The coin has been specially designed and produced for Athelstane Public School and it features a red poppy, and the Athelstane school logo, along with the words "commemorating with pride". Tomorrow on Tuesday 21st of April, students will return to Athelstane to begin Term 2. As always at Athelstane, this promises to be an exciting and busy term of schooling. Meeting Slade

Pet Education At Athelstane

K-2 students at Athelstane were lucky enough to have Nikki from the Responsible Pet Education team, and Slade, her dog visit us this week. They both taught the students lots of valuable things to do with appropriate ways to interact with pets, particularly unfamiliar animals, and how to be a responsible pet owner. The students thoroughly enjoyed the session, and were very excited to meet the lovely Slade. It was yet another great opportunity given the students at Athelstane Public School.... Read more


Athelstane's Fit Futures!

This term at Athelstane, all students K-6 have had the opportunity to take part in a weekly specialised gymnastics program. Students have been explicity taught a number of gymnastics skills, and have demonstrated their growing skills during their weekly lessons. The annual Athelstane Easter Fair is scheduled to take place in Week 10 on Wednesday 1st April. This is an exciting day full of rides, entertainment and fun activities for our students and guests to take part in. It is a great way to finish the term.
